The woolly mammoth looked a lot like an elephant, but with long shaggy fur all over its body. It had huge curved tusks that could be longer than a grown-up is tall! Woolly mammoths lived during the Ice Age when the world was very cold and snowy.
Woolly mammoths were plant eaters. They used their trunks to pull up grass and plants from under the snow. Their thick fur coat kept them warm in freezing weather. Early humans actually saw woolly mammoths and even drew pictures of them on cave walls!
