A composer is a person who writes music. Composers think of melodies and put notes together to make songs. Some composers lived a very long time ago, but people still love their music today! You might hear their music in movies, at concerts, or even in cartoons.
Composers write music for pianos, violins, trumpets, and many other instruments. Some composers write music for a whole orchestra to play together. Their music can make you feel happy, sad, brave, or sleepy.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Austria a long time ago, in 1756. He started playing piano when he was only three years old! By the time he was five, he was already writing his own music. That is younger than most kindergartners!
Mozart traveled all over Europe with his family. He played music for kings and queens. Everyone was amazed that such a little kid could play so well. Mozart grew up and wrote more than 600 pieces of music. He wrote songs, operas, and music for orchestras. His music sounds bright and joyful.
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Germany in 1770. He was one of the greatest composers ever. Beethoven started losing his hearing when he was a young man. Over time, he became almost completely deaf. But he did not stop writing music!
Even though Beethoven could not hear, he still felt the music inside his head. He wrote some of his most powerful music after he lost his hearing. His music can sound strong and exciting, like a thunderstorm. One of his most famous pieces is called the Ninth Symphony. People all over the world still play it today.
