Carlos Finlay was an amazing doctor and scientist from Cuba! When he was a young man, a very bad sickness called yellow fever was making people very ill. He wanted to help, so he spent many years studying this sickness and watching very closely to see how it spread from person to person. He worked so hard because he wanted everyone to stay healthy!
In 1881, Carlos shared a really big discovery with the world! He found out that tiny mosquitoes were actually carrying the yellow fever germs and making people sick when they bit them. At first, people didn’t believe him, but he never gave up on his idea! Years later, other doctors proved he was right, and his amazing discovery helped save so many lives around the world!
