George Washington was the very first president of the United States of America! Before he was our leader, he was a brave and smart soldier who loved learning how to grow different crops on his farm in Virginia. When our country was just starting out, he led our army and helped America become its own special place instead of being told what to do by the King of England! Everybody trusted him so much because he was strong, fair, and kind.
President Washington is famous for making our country free and building our very first government with other important leaders! He could have stayed president for as long as he wanted, but he decided to step down and let someone else take a turn. This showed everyone how to be a good and fair leader for a new country. Today, his face is on our one-dollar bills and shiny silver quarters, reminding us of the man who started it all!
