Nelson Mandela was an amazing leader from South Africa who fought to make sure people of all colors were treated like equals! When he was growing up in a small village, he loved to herd cattle and play with other boys, learning how to listen and be fair. Later, he saw that the rules in his country were very unfair and kept people apart just because of the color of their skin. Nelson decided to stand up and speak out against these bad rules because he dreamed of a happy, colorful country called the ‘Rainbow Nation’!
Nelson is famous for spending many long years in jail just because he wanted everyone to be free, but he never gave up hope or got angry! When he finally got out of jail, he helped change the unfair laws and became the very first Black president of South Africa. He was so forgiving that he even invited the people who put him in jail to help him build a better country. People all over the world celebrate his birthday in July by doing good deeds, showing that love and forgiveness can conquer anything!
