Booker T. Washington was a great teacher and leader who believed that learning could change people’s lives! He was born a slave, but after he became free, he worked very hard to go to school and learn how to read. He wanted to help other Black Americans get a good education too, so he started a whole new school called the Tuskegee Institute. He taught his students important skills like farming and building so they could have good jobs!
Booker traveled all over the country giving speeches and writing books about why learning is so important. He showed everyone that with hard work and a good education, you can achieve your dreams.
