Mary McLeod Bethune

Mary McLeod Bethune was an inspiring teacher who built a school with only one dollar and a half! She wanted African American girls to have a wonderful place to learn, so she started a school in Florida. She and her students worked very hard to raise money by baking pies and singing songs. Her little school grew so big that it eventually became a famous college!

Mary also worked with presidents to make sure all kids had fair rules and good schools. She was a brave leader who fought for the rights of African Americans and women everywhere. People loved her so much because she was always helping others and spreading kindness. Mary McLeod Bethune showed the world that anyone can build something amazing if they try!
