The park is named after Henry Rengstorff, a man who came to California from Germany around the year 1850. He was hoping to find gold, but instead he became a farmer and bought lots of land in the area. He built a beautiful house around 1867, and it became one of the first homes in Mountain View. Today, you can still visit the Rengstorff House at nearby Shoreline Park. The house was moved there and fixed up so that people could see what life was like long ago.

- Henry Rengstorff owned more than 10,000 acres of land in the area, which is bigger than many small towns.
- The Rengstorff House was moved twice before it found its final home at Shoreline Park.
- The park has a special inclusive playground called Magical Bridge, designed so that kids of all abilities can play together.
