Oak Tree

Oak trees are some of the strongest and biggest trees you will ever see! They can grow as tall as a 15-story building, and their wide, spreading branches make perfect spots for squirrels to run along and birds to build their nests. Oak trees can live for hundreds and hundreds of years, and some are even more than 1,000 years old! In 2004, the oak was chosen as the national tree of the United States because people love it so much.

Oak trees grow little nuts called acorns, and a single big oak tree can make up to 90,000 acorns in just one year! Many animals, like squirrels, deer, and rabbits, love to munch on acorns to help them stay strong and healthy. But here is a surprising fact: out of every 10,000 acorns, only about one will actually grow into a new oak tree. Over 200 different kinds of moths and 30 types of birds have been found living in oak trees, which makes them like a busy neighborhood for all sorts of creatures!
