Reading a Simple Map

A map is a special drawing of a place from high up in the sky. It’s like being a bird and looking down at the ground! Maps help us see where things are, like our house, a park, or even a whole town. When we look at a map, we are looking at a “bird’s eye view” of our world.

To read a map, we use a map key. A map key is like a secret code! It has little pictures called symbols that stand for real things. A little green tree on the map might mean there is a big park there. A blue line might be a river. Maps also have a compass rose to show us which way is North, South, East, and West. With a map in your hand, you can find your way to any adventure!
