Sarah Boone

Have you ever noticed how nice and smooth your clothes look after they are ironed? You can thank a clever inventor named Sarah Boone for helping make that happen! A long time ago, ironing clothes was very hard because the boards were just flat pieces of wood. Sarah wanted to make it easier to iron shirts, especially the tricky parts like the sleeves and the curvy sides!

Sarah designed a brand new ironing board that was narrow, curved, and covered in soft padding. Her brilliant invention was the perfect shape for slipping a shirt sleeve right over the edge! Her great idea made ironing so much faster and better for everyone. We still use ironing boards that look just like hers today!
